The 35-year-old joins the Solna-based team on a free transfer from South African side Engen Santos and will play for the club until November 1.
A statement on the club’s official website reads: “We are very pleased to sign such an experienced player in Vasalund – we hope it can be a boost for us, primarily sporting but also that it increases the interest around Vasalund and Division 1 at large. Last year we had Bojan Djordjic who created an interest Vasalund, we hope Pa Dembo can have a similar effect.”
Pa Dembo, who will offer his experience and leadership to the team currently lying 9th on the 14-team table with 19 points, returns to Sweden after spending three years in South Africa.
Pa Dembo began his footballing career with Real de Banjul F.C. in Gambia. In 2000, he moved to Stockholm in Sweden to play for Djurgården IF in the highest domestic league, Allsvenskan.
He spent two respective loan spells with Assyriska FF and Vålerenga IF before returning to Djurgården following the sale of Swedish international goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson. After Isaksson’s departure, Pa Dembo was handed an extended run in the team, and since maintained his position as first-choice goalkeeper at the club.
He was also rewarded with the club captaincy after several seasons of consistency and following the 2011 season was selected as the top goalkeeper in the Allsvenskan. At the conclusion of the 2011 season, after a decade at Djurgården IF, Pa Dembo left the club having appeared in 195 league matches for the club.
