(JollofNews) – The half brother of Gambia’s former long-term ruler Yahya Jammeh is appearing before a commission of inquiry looking into the financial dealings of his brother.
Ansumana Jammeh served as Gambia’s ambassador to Qatar and held various senior position and shares in companies owned by his brother who is now living in exile in Equitorial Guinea following his defeat in December 2016 election.
The commission which is headed by veteran lawyer Surahata B. Janneh, is looking at numerous allegations of mismanagement of public funds, abuse of office, and willful violations of public funds by the former President Yahya Jammeh and his associates.
We will keep you updated as events unfold.
Transparency?? A joke as new government members started sending family and friends to Makkah Saudi Arabia !!!
Anyone found to be complicit in the misuse of public funds should face the full force of the law. I always felt that the biggest problem we face in Gambia is corruption and nepotism and until we fight this two things we are doomed as a nation. There is no excuse for Sabally and Mr Jammeh to claim that they are only following orders, If you knowingly collude in anything illegal, you should also be prepared for the penalties that goes or handed down for taking part in illegal acts. Nothing is stopping these individuals from resigning from their posts when they knew full well what Jammeh was doing was illegal but because of money and power (position) they kept quiet and continued until they get fired. Misappropriation of public money is a grave crime and should be treated as such, no excuses should be accepted.
Collusion in embezzling national treasure is a crime and sabally must equally account for it. Furthermore, he should be banned from holding public office for the foreseeable future. His excuses makes him illegible for a position of authority. What a disgrace!
It’s total nonsense for a career civil servant who was one time a director of budget at MOFEA, a researcher at the CBG and head of the civil service to stand at the Commission only to tell us that he had to comply with all directions given to him by Jammeh. Even when it involves violating the laws of the Gambia. What a shame that someone who just last week was being portrayed as “inspiring African youths.”
IN 2013, SABALLY READ OUT A STATEMENT SAYING THAT MANDINGKAS WILL NEVER RULE THIS COUNTRY, REFLECTING THE VIEWS OF THE JAMMEH GOVERNMENT. SHAME ON HIM!!!
Good job Jollofnews. Please keep us posted with subsequent sessions verbatim.
The police should take over the investigations
Police take over the case? If the most corrupt is the police followed by politicians ?
