The Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t in The Gambia has asserted that the Jamaa’t doesn’t need the recognition of any scholar, government and organization, adding that Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t is here to serve the Gambian people.
According to Amir Baba F. Trawally, the Jamaa’t is in The Gambia to propagate the pure teachings of the Qur’an and practices of Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W).
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t in The Gambia recently came under intense attack from some Islamic scholars, who were unhappy with the TRRC recommendation, for religious tolerance in The Gambia.
Some of the scholars, including former State House mosque Imam Abdoulie Fatty and Imam Cheboo Cham chastised the TRRC for, what they believed, emboldening and encouraging the Jamaa’t to ‘consolidate its crusade of misleading Gambians’.
Chebbo Cham said in one of his Friday sermons shortly after the publication of the TRRC White Paper that he would never give reverence to a law that treats every religion equally and Imam Fatty vowed Ahmadis would be fought until they retreat through the ocean.
Meanwhile, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t continued to be confronted by some Gambia Islamic scholars for ’embellishing’ Islam.
But according to Amir Trawally, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t does not dignify such comments with response, adding that the jamaa’t is in the country to practice pure Islam.
“Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t is here to practice purely Islam,” the Amir told JollofNews and Star TV in an interview.
“Purely the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and practices of the Prophet (S.A.W),” he explained.
“We don’t respond to some of these allegations,” the Amir added.
The Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t in The Gambia stressed that there was more work to do in the society than fanning of religious intolerance.
“Let us train our children; the future generation and those who would inherit us. The police in the street and office have a lot of work to do today because of our sons, daughters and some of these Imams engaged in religious intolerance.
“We need to mould the character of our children. We have a lot to do in the society than castigating somebody,” Amir Trawally underscored.
