Is CBG’s Buah Saidy’s Job On The Line?

Buah Saidy, Governor of the Central Bank of The Gambia (CBG)

The embarrassment caused by a report in March that over D100m of mutilated banknotes were stashed at the Central Bank of The Gambia (CBG) has forced the bank’s governor to threaten resignation if the report turned out to be true but it would seem Buah’s job is under threat if he was to be taken by his words.

In March of this year, The Alkamba Times reported that D155m of torn banknotes were given to a senior CBG staff Amadou Ceesay by one Mr. Bah for conversion into new notes at a bribe of D11m.

When the news broke, the police immediately released a statement, rubbishing the claim.

It described the transaction as an organized crime and promised swift probe.

The Governor of CBG, Buah Saidy, out of shame and concern for the integrity of the apex bank, threatened to quit his top job at the bank if the report was found to be factual.

And, it appears that there’s possibility Buah may be leaving the bank if he was to stay true to his words.

Already, some top staff of the bank were sent home as a result of the D155m banknotes conundrum.

As the progress or otherwise of the investigation was yet unclear to many, the question is: Is Buah also leaving soon?
