Abubakary Jawara Foundation Donates Bags Of Rice, Sugar To Needy Gambians

Abubakary Jawara Foundation has extended a helping hand to needy Gambians in the wake of the Holy Month of Ramadan with bags of rice and sugar at a presentation ceremony held at Fatou Golden Plaza on Berting Harding Highway.

The presentation of the largesse, which took place on Wednesday 23 March 2023, was witnessed by a cross-section of Gambians from various institutions and organisations including officials of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, all of whom hailed the magnanimous and benevolent gesture of the foundation under the aegis of Dr Abubakary Jawara, CEO of GACH Global Company.

In his remarks on the occasion, Bai Samba Drammeh, an official of the foundation, disclosed that the presentation was the second of its kind for this year’s Ramadan food distribution meant to help the vulnerable and needy Gambians.

The gesture, he said, will be distributed across the country in line with the foundation’s desire to help the vulnerable and needy.

He said Abubakary Jawara Foundation has over the years put smiles on the faces of many Gambians through various forms of interventions that have impacted positively on their lives.

The foundation has sponsored so many Gambians to receive medical treatment at home and abroad, as well as supported rural communities with water boreholes and other relevant community projects.

“To the youths of this country, our foundation has also supported school-going youth with tuition fee and scholarship,” he said, adding that the Foundation has also been contributing to the socio-economic development of The Gambia.”

Yusupha Jawara, Chairman of the foundation, also made similar statements, affirming that the foundation is a charitable organization meant to render support to needy Gambians in various parts and regions of the country.

The foundation, which continues to alleviate poverty and mitigate the suffering of children, seeks to promote community integration and unification through providing financial support to households and communities across the country.

“As a foundation, we are committed to our objective in uplifting the status and living conditions of the financially disadvantaged people in our country by helping to provide their basic necessities,” Chairman Jawara said, adding that the Foundation, with the help of Allah, “will continue to be helpful to people of this beloved country at no cost”.

He added: “Therefore, as we have gathered here today, Abubakary Jawara Foundation will present 20,000 bags of rice and 10,000 bags of sugar to the people of this country as part of our efforts to contribute to the socio-economic development of The Gambia in a bid to attain the sustainable development goals of the country.

“Today’s distribution is in response to our annual Ramadan food distribution and the hardship faced by the needy in order to improve their living standards. We are also calling on other philanthropists to emulate Dr Jawara’s kind gesture and give support to the less privileged.”

Sheikh Essa Darboe, President of Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), Sheikh Hamma Jaiteh and Sheikh Essa Jawara, who all spoke briefly at the presentation, called on wealthy Gambians, organisations and philanthropists to replicate the good gesture of the Abubakary Jawara Foundation and its CEO Dr Abubakary Jawara.

They said the holy month of Ramadan is a period of compassion which includes rendering assistance to the poor and needy “thus it is important for those who are wealthy to help the poor”.
