Argentina Bids To Host 2023 U-20 World Cup

Current world football champion Argentina has officially submitted its bid to the world football governing body to host FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

The bid comes following withdrawal of Indonesia’s hosting right for the global youth tourney.

“There have been other countries that have expressed an interest, but in terms of a formal proposal and all the government assurances that come with that, Argentina is in pole position,” President Infantino is quoted as saying during a press conference on the eve of the CONMEBOL Congress in Asunción, Paraguay.

“The decision will be made, I think, over the next two or three days, and as soon as possible, because the [U-20] World Cup kicks off on 20 May, which is right around the corner. We all know about football in Argentina; it’s a country that I’m sure would be able to host a tournament of this magnitude.”

Mr Infantino added that the president of the Argentina Football Federation (AFA), Claudio Tapia, as well as the South American country’s Ministry of Sport and Tourism, and the Ministry of Commerce had provided the “necessary assurances” along with the strong bid handed to him by CONMEBOL’s President Alejandro Domínguez.

“AFA’s proposal will be sent over to the FIFA Bureau [of the Council], which will ultimately make the decision as to who will host the U-20 World Cup,” the FIFA President explained.

Concluding, he thanked AFA’s President Tapia and all Argentina, as well as the Argentine government, for organising their proposal in a rather quick fashion, saying: “It really makes our life a little bit easier.”
