Gambia Calls Up Stars For TotalEnergies AFCON Qualification

Gambia’s head coach, Jonathan McKinstry, has unveiled a strong 24-man squad as the Scorpions prepare for their final push to qualify for the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.

McKinstry has assembled a mix of seasoned players, notably including experienced defender Omar Colley, creative midfielder Ablie Jallow, and dynamic forwards Alieu Fadera and Alie Sowe, aiming to harness their skills and experience in the crucial upcoming matches.

Currently third in Group A with five points, Gambia faces a challenging path to qualification.

They will play Comoros on 15 November in Berkane, Morocco, a critical matchup as Comoros currently sit second in the group with six points.

Following this, Gambia travels to Radès to face group leaders Tunisia, who top the table with seven points, on 18 November.

Both matches will be vital, as the Scorpions need to secure strong results to overtake either Tunisia or Comoros and secure one of the group’s qualifying spots.

The group standings are tight, with Madagascar in fourth place with two points but still mathematically in contention.

Gambia’s chances hinge on positive outcomes from these games to earn a spot in the upcoming tournament in Morocco, adding high stakes to McKinstry’s tactical approach and squad selection.
