Gambia 2021: BB Dabo Appeals For Calm As Election Probe Continues

Bakary Bunja Dabo, Gambia For All party leader

The leader of the opposition Gambia For All party (GFA) has appealed for calm as investigations into last week’s presidential election results continues.

Bakary Bunja Dabo, whose party backed the main opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) in the election, said while he believe that the results of the elections have failed to meet expectations and in raised questions that need further investigation and answers, his party will allow the investigative process to be concluded before reaching a definitive position on the issue.

He added: “But, in the absence of clear evidence compromising the integrity of the electoral process, our abiding position of principle remains to respect election results as representing the verdict of the people; and for any complaint or grievances, to only resort to the courts for redress.”

Mr Dabo said with the elections now over his party members and officials should refocus on party work for building a strong, broad-based and credible party capable of participating actively in the political life of the country and offering Gambians an enlightened, honest and experienced leadership, of the type, which they have been deprived of for so long.

He congratulated the Gambian people on the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections and his party members and sympathisers for their active participation in the activities that led to this important national event.
