After winning the Africa Cup of Nations this year, expectations are high in Senegal.

The team has a number of familiar faces to fans of English football, none more so than former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Here’s everything you need to know about Senegal…

Coach: Aliou Cisse. Captained the Senegal side at the 2002 World Cup that stunned holders France in the opening game and reached the quarter-finals. He’s been in charge since 2015.

Captain: Kalidou Koulibaly. The Chelsea defender is a rock at the back for his country.

Star player: Sadio Mane. One of the best forwards in world football and key to Senegal’s hopes.

One to watch: Pape Matar Sarr. Yet to make his mark at Tottenham but Senegal hope he will shine in Qatar.

World ranking: 18th

Odds: 90/1

Best thing about them: Their attack, led by Mane, could be great fun to watch.

Worst thing about them: Mendy has lost his place at Chelsea and could be short on form and confidence.

Their prospects in three words: Eyeing the knockouts.
