Tourism Marketing: The Gambia Makes Fresh Move To Check Ebola

ebola(JollofNews) – As part of the moves to strengthen The Gambian market and encourage more foreign investors, the country’s tourism board in association with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare

(MOHSW) under the leadership of the Honourable Minister, Mr. Omar Sey has assured all tourism stakeholders and the general public that various in-country measures and international consultations continue to be undertaken by the Gambia government to prevent the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) from entering into the country.
Despite the fact that the country has recorded no case of Ebola disease, the Gambia government has continued to take every necessary step to protect her country from any outbreak of the dreadful disease.
Part of the efforts in place to prevent the outbreak of the deadly disease is placement of travel restriction on persons from Ebola infected countries.
The Gambia Government through the MOH&SW has undertaken to restrict entry of the international traveler coming directly from the affected countries such as Guinea Conakry, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
According the statement made available to THISDAY, travelers from these countries are only allowed entry if they had left the affected countries beyond the 21 days incubation period of the disease.ebola
“Travelers traveling indirectly from any of the aforementioned countries through a second or third country to The Gambia must still fulfill the criteria of surpassing the 21 days incubation period of the disease.
Meanwhile, the country has stated that all previous travel restriction on persons from Ebola affected countries still stand.
Few months ago, when the Ebola outbreak began to have a negative impact on global economy, The Gambia government quickly made a move to protect her citizens and visitors to the country. In what looked like a precautionary measure, the country banned the ferrying of air passengers into the country from the areas in West Africa affected by the Ebola virus disease.
According to an official letter addressed to the management of four local airline companies, the government instructed them not to pick up passengers coming to Banjul from Freetown, Monrovia and Conakry.
The letter, which coincided with UN WHO declaration that the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa is “a public health emergency of international concern,” stated that the government order must be carried out with immediate effect and until further notice.
