Who Raped Sainabou Mbye’s Sister?

The unanswered question as to who raped Sainabou Mbye’s sister came to the fore once again following the acquittal of Sainabou of charges of involvement in her son’s death.

The Mbye sisters gained notoriety sometime this year after Sainabou Mbye reported her husband to the police for allegedly raping and putting her sister in a family way.

The subsequent trial of Sainabou’s husband over her sister’s alleged rape became a cause celebre in its second year.

After been held in pre-trial detention at the State Central Prison for almost two years, the public felt enough was enough and Bob Keita’s right to a fair trial must be respected.

In no time, scores of Gambians, mainly youth began swarming the court precincts in attempts to leverage pressure on the court.

One of the results of those public pressures was an issuance of an order for the conduct of a DNA test to prove the paternity of the child at the centre of the rape allegation.

Now that the paternity test could not prove who sired Baby Muhammed and that her stepmother was acquitted of charges of suspected involvement in his death in suspicious circumstances, the question many are still asking is: Who is the late Baby Muhammed’s father?

Will the police open fresh enquiry as to who raped Sainabou Mbye’s sister is still a question being asked.
