(JollofNews) – President Yahya Jammeh has fired the country’s minister of Fisheries, Mass Axi Gai.
Mr Gai, 68, who was hired in October 2012, was sent packing on Thursday afternoon from his office.
He is succeeded by Lamin Nyabally who will also continue to serve as Minister of Presidential Affairs, Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service.
No reasons were given for his removal, but a statement from the President’s Office said it was in accordance with the provisions of the country’s constitution.
A former footballer, Mr Gai first joined the Jammeh regime in 2008 as minister of Youths and Sports. He was later removed and appointed to various top positions including deputy secretary general of the ruling APRC party, Gambia’s ambassador to Guinea Bissau and high commissioner to Senegal.
