(Jollofnews) —President Yahya Jammeh’s APRC party has retained the National Assembly seat for the Janjangbureh Constituency after thrashing the opposition National Reconciliation Party (NRP) in Thursday’s by-election.
According to official results by the Independent Electoral Commission, the APRC candidate, Ebrima Sarjo secured 741 votes while Kebba Yorro Manneh of the NRP secured 110 votes.
The by-election was called in accordance with Gambian electoral laws following the death of 72-year-old Foday Jibani Manka in December 2014.
Reacting to the results, Mr Sarjo thanked the people of Janjangbureh for their votes and promised to be their servant and voice in the National Assembly.
