Gambia’s Ruling Party To Endorse Jammeh’s Candidacy For Dec Polls

Gambia(JollofNews) – Delegates of the Gambia’s governing Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) will be meeting on Thursday to endorse President Yahya Jammeh as the party’s flagbearer for the December 2016 general elections.

President Jammeh who came to power in July 1994, is seeking a fifth presidential term despite calls for him to stepdown by opposition groups.
As part of the congress which is being held at President Jammeh’s home village, Kanilai, delegates would discuss pertinent issues affecting the party, as well as amend the party’s constitution in compliance with new electoral law of the Gambia which demands political parties to set up bureaus in each of the five administrative regions of the country and hold a congress every four years.
President Jammeh’s supporters will use the congress to celebrate recent awards given to him by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the African Union, African Leadership Magazine, Golden Star Award, African Platform for Development and Human Rights and the government of Sierra Leone.
