Gambian children to undergo heart treatment

By Frederic Tendeng
17 Gambian children suffering from heart diseases will soon be sent to Venezuela to undergo medical treatment. This revelation was made on Tuesday in Banjul by Venezuela’s ambassador to Gambia, Mrs. Lourdes Pirez Martinez.
Ambassador Pirez Martinez said the move is part of her country’s efforts to strengthen and consolidate the bilateral relations between The Gambia and Venezuela.
“Strengthening these relations is one of the objectives adopted in the action plan of the Nuevo Esparto Declaration as part of the second Africa-Latin America summit held last year in Caracas, Venezuela”, Ambassador Lourdes Pires Martinez explained.
Ms. Pirez recalled that the Action Plan is a result of the cooperation with all African countries that ratified the commitment to the integration of their peoples and their countries on the basis of respect for their sovereignty, solidarity, of humanism and social justice, as targets to actual eradication of poverty.
She said that her Government will focus on development projects and programs centred primarily on the areas of health and agriculture.
