Regional leaders head for Banjul

As Gambia prepares for 45th anniversary

As the Gambia braces up for celebrations marking the 45th anniversary of the country’s Independence, two heads of states from neighbouring countries are set to arrive in the country.
In a statement aired on the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), Tuesday evening February 16, 2010, the Gambian government has announced the impending arrival of President Abdoulie Wade of Senegal, and the head of State of Guinea, interim leader General Saikouba Conateh.
According to the statement, reportedly from the president’s office, both President Wade and General Conateh are expected to arrive in Banjul some time Wednesday, February 17, to grace the occasion, slated for this Thursday, 18th February.
President Wade’s second visit to Gambia in one month constitutes an illustration of the cordial relationship between the 2 countries.
