(JollofNews) – The Gambia is seeking Malaysian talent and expertise to develop infrastructure to boost the country’s tourism industry and for other fields of development.
Gambian Ambassador to Malaysia Abubacarr Jah said his country was impressed with the facilities in Malaysia, especially the KL International Airport, and urged Malaysian companies to explore the Gambian market which he said offered huge opportunities.
“We have plans to hold talks soon with a few Malaysian companies. We are interested to cooperate in the area of airports, and information and communication technology, which will help to enhance our bilateral relations,” he said.
Jah spoke to Bernama on the 22nd anniversary celebration of the 22nd July Revolution of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia, here, last night.
Gambians annually celebrate July 22, which marks a political evolution in the history of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia through the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council of The Gambia Armed Forces.
Jah, in his speech at the event earlier, said The Gambia had undergone a transformative journey that was underpinned by a collective optimism and desire to achieve the aspirations of the Gambian people.
“As a consequence, in the health, agriculture, education, tourism, telecommunication and finance sectors, efforts are being continuously made to ensure that The Gambia and its people realise the destiny that is being craved by its leadership.
“This aspiration and the appreciation of the achievements that are registered have prompted the desire to celebrate this momentous event as a further recognition of the promise that it beholds for the present and future generation of the Gambian people,” he added.
The West African country has a domestic market of 1.7 million people and The Gambia’s membership of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) trade bloc ensures easy market access to over 300 million people.
