Gambia’s Head Of Civil Service Fired

Sulayman Samba

(JollofNews) – Barely two weeks before the end of his tenure of office, President Yahya Jammeh of the Gambia has sacked the  country’s secretary-general, head of the civil service and minister of Presidential Affairs.

Sulayman Samba, who was appointed to the post last August, was sent packing from the State House Thursday afternoon. No reasons were given.

He was  previously removed from the post on 30th June 2016 seven months after his appointment.

Mr Samba held many senior positions in the Jammeh regime including deputy secretary-general and permanent secretary for various government ministries.

President Jammeh’s mandate is due to end on 18th January after he surprisingly lost the election to opposition candidate, Adama Barrow. Despite initially conceding defeat, Mr Jammeh is refusing to handover power and has vowed to fight off any foreign military intervention.

Meanwhile, Mr Jammeh has rewarded Nominated  National Assembly Member Seedy SK Njie, with the position of spokesman and press secretary of his party.

Mr Njie who was nominated to the country’s lawmaking body by Mr Jammeh, was the first lawmaker in the country to publicly throw his weight behind Mr Jammeh amidst calls for him to step down.
