Letter From New York: Reelection Is The Only Solution To Gambia’s Political Impasse

Samsudeen Sarr

(JollofNews) – It really breaks my heart when people try to make the political impasse in the Gambia all about His Excellency President Yahya A. J. J. Jammeh Jammeh alone. That he is the only one trying to unjustifiably cling to power without any reasons in an election he had lost, conceded to, but later changed his mind about it, without any reason.

It is about time these critics understand that the challenge of the election results in the Gambia originated from hundreds of thousands of Gambian voters in support of the president and his government who feel cheated by an IEC they thought couldn’t be corrupted. If it was about President Jammeh alone, and the first results of the elections announced by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), it should still be respected that his decision to accept them and openly conceded defeat was based on the sincere belief that the system was tamper-proof and that nothing could change the figures.

However, IT experts have indicated that the way the figures were transposed-horizontally-from one column of the excel-spread sheet to another, with the numbers oddly added, subtracted or tallied, only could happen with operatives working on a compromised backway into the system. In a lame person’s interpretation, accessing the excel spread sheet could only have happened if the system was hacked.

But as if the biblical citation that man proposes but God disposes was in play here, the smart hackers seemed to have lost their ingenuity soon after breaking into the system, because they manipulated the numbers with utter recklessness.

In fact, I am inclined to believe that Mr. Alieu Momarr Njie the IEC chairman may even not have known or understood the way the numbers were manipulated by the con artists who may have frightened him to unnecessarily run away to Dakar Senegal. After all, everything in the Gambia suggests that he was safe and was not at any given time been threatened by any government official or security agent, for that manner.

His departure was merely to absent himself from the embarrassment of facing a court where he would have been caught dumbfounded with the serious digital and analogous fraud perpetrated in his office. The evidence gathered is overwhelming and when exhibited at the courts will expose a less sophisticated but clear violation of all the mechanisms in place for the conduct of a free and fair election.

No one can explain how the IEC inadvertently transposed 63,909 votes from the Base Administration Area alone across to the overall votes won by the three contenders but cannot arithmetically show how that ‘constant’ could only get Mr. Barrow’s numbers right. From the 263,515 votes first published by the IEC on December 2nd 2016 as Mr. Barrow’s winning numbers, if you subtract the “transposed” 63,909 votes from it and add it to the total votes 28,102 he won in the area, the result indeed comes down to the correct 227,708 votes they later published as the final result.

But if you use the same 63,909 ‘constant’ in the same equation with President Jammeh’s initial numbers of 212,099 votes where the 24,490 votes he won in the area are also added, the results cannot be the 208,487 votes published by the IEC as his final corrected results.

Likewise, with Mr. Mamma Kandeh’s 102,969 initial votes, using the 63,909 ‘constant’ and adding the 11,289 he won, the result couldn’t be the 89,768 votes they published as the final corrected numbers.

Chairman of the IEC

The only plausible analysis over these numbers is that the 63,909 votes were only transposed to Mr. Barrow’s numbers and not to President Jammeh’s or Mr. Kandeh’s results. In that case, I think what the IEC should have rightly done was to go by the correct results of the arithmetic where President Jammeh got another very questionable 172,680 votes and Mr. Kandeh 50,289 votes; without that, the only logical alternative should have been to add the initial 212,099 votes gotten by President Jammeh to the 24,490 votes he won in the area that would have obviously given him a clean win with 236,589 votes instead of the cooked 208,487 votes.

Invariably, Mr. Mamma Kandeh would have had 102,969 plus the 11,289 he won in the area, giving him 114,258 votes instead of the forged 89,768 votes.

So, like I said, there is no way the IEC chairman could explain such discombobulated figures, manipulated into these results which is the fundamental reason why the APRC refused to endorse the revised results.
And once these fraudulent activities were discovered, more discrepancies came to light which I can’t publish until tendered as exhibits to the courts.

And please spare us the cynicism of trying to discredit the Gambia Supreme Court as being bias against the opposition Party and in favor of the APRC government. It was the same argument heard in the past years about the IEC until they stole the elections for the opposition that now becomes the best IEC ever. I am sure if the Supreme Court were to come up with a verdict in favor of the opposition, all these cynics would hail it as the best in the world. What kind of intellectual honesty is that?

As for those insisting that President Jammeh or the APRC party should offer a solution to the impasse, I think they need to go back and listen to his television speech on December 9th 2016. In that tape, everyone heard him recommending fresh elections, no less no more.

The IEC failed the country and needs to be overhauled for a fairer national election. If ECOWAS wants to treat the situation with objectivity and a positive negotiating spirit of peacemaking and peacekeeping, they could play a better part in helping the country conduct another General election and not boycott it with allegations that the IEC was always bias in favor of the government. Of course, the IEC not being credible has always been the position of ECOWAS that prevented them over the years to send observers to monitor Gambia’s elections.

The Gambia is a sovereign state and must be respected to conduct its internal political affairs like all other countries do. We cannot be forced into settling for something that is against the interest of our country or that of its citizens.

Long live the Gambian people!
Long live the Islamic Republic of the Gambia?
Long live His Excellency Sheikh Professor Doctor Alhagie Yahya A. J. J. Jammeh Babilimansa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed and Security Forces!

  2. You are a traitor and an absolute disgrace to all the Gambians. Oh I mean true gambians If you carry on behaving the way you doing Donald trump should kick you out of states to face the Gambians’. Gambians in the state should find out were you are to exposed you. You are a bully and very manipulative individual, you feeling comfortable and free of voicing your views, same cannot be said for most Gambians. United state as the saying goes is the land of dreams that’s what you having ‘ majority of Gambians were denied that. You are a culprit with no means of adding anything to the development of our motherland, so do us all a favour and travel to the Gambia to make your case, not behind the screen. You are a typical bully , I know your type people who hide behind the screen to make themselves notice. If yayas plight means so much to you I will pay your ticket to get to the Gambia next week, enclosed your account for me to transfer the money. That’s what I call true Gambians who would travel to the Gambia and be counted for. Guess what I will be taking a flight myself to have a proper debate with you face to face. You are a coward and an attention seekers. A proper debate please not behind the screen face to face. See you in Gambia.

  3. Sam Sarr, your attempt at explaining the election figures add more to the confussion which Jammeh and his followers already created over the entire issue. You do not have to go for this long and boring explanation when all you need is a very simple explanation.

First of all, what it is that has not changed or what is changed? This is just a simple addition of the results from the various polling booths which you accepted. The bone of contention here is the way the figures were finally summed up. The IEC admitted errors in the summation and APRC saw it as fraudulent. You will agree with me that the votes were counted and result accept for every poling booths country wide. APRC and you, in particular, are arguing over the way the figures from the polling booths which you will agree never changed were summed up. Nowhere in your arguement did you mention that the figures from any polling booth signed by the various party agents are incorrect. That being the case, take a calculator and simply add the results from the polling booths and see for yourself. Please, save us the long explanations. The whole world is not as dump and mediocre as you are. The matter is that simple. Jammeh or APRC contested an election but lost. Now you are out to create mischief.

The IEC chairman never ran away. Rather his life was being threatened. His family not wanting to loose him and removed him from harms way. Call it running away or whatever. We all saw what happened to you and people like you. Can you admit to us what crimes you committed that landed you in prison. I used to like you but now you talk too much. The sad thing is that what you say are most of the time nonsense.

  4. Thanks, I do belive the Gambia constitution it’s all we need do have this quistion resolved and have a second round of elections

    • Go back and retread the constitution winning is not on percentage its first past the post which means that the person with the most votes enem it it is by only 1 vote wins.
Barrow won by more than 18000 votes so no need for rerun. You are thinking of the Senegalese system not Gambia.

    • Luis Felix you are reading from an old Gambian Constitution. Yahya Jammeh has changed that clause you are referring stipulates a second round of voting. He changed it to a simple majority just before or after the 2001 election. That is the reason why you have not heard either him or his many deluded followers call for a second round of voting. The man is caught in his own snare.

  6. Even if it is only 1 vote

  7. Where is this constitution you are talking first take the post not I’m gambia the constitution is this please read

Just follow the link and you will find the copy of constitution,
    http://www.accessgambia.com/information/constitution.html

but if you have a deferent please correct me and send me the one you have

    • REMEMBER THE APRC CANDIDATE IS GOING TO COURT BUT NO MENTION OF 51% AND WHEN HE CONCEDED IT WAS PURELY ON NUMERICAL LOSS TO BARROW.
Did you bother to read THERE IS ALWAYS A NEED TO READ INSTRUCTIONS
      NOTE:
The above files should not be referenced to as a legal source of authority. It is put on this page for general public information only.

      • I,m not defending a Tirany or detactor ship, but the democracy, the court paper are all wrong, but the constitution of gambia that should be respected, the lingk is for general purpose but the thru copy of gambia constitution is there where you can see the rules of presidential election and in none part it’s seys first become president this only is required for the second round of elections, and if it clear that Mr Adam as the support of Oposition, in a clearound union between Oposition I don’t see how it can’t win the second round of elections, let have the second round organized by the ecowas it clear rules and warranty of freedown, for the best of gambia.
the best all should do is accept that there has been a mistake the way the rusts has been counted and the constitution he sent been followed

        Thanks Luis felix

        • Mr.Luis Felix! Can you please shut the fuck up and save us all your ignorant rants regarding the constitution of The Gambia. It is a damn disgrace to write such shits regarding an issue that you seemed to be totally ignorant about. Enlighten yourself first before aggravating the pain that we Gambians are, were going through in the hands of Yahya and his ill mannered, uneducated and brutal operatives, who killed, rapped, detained without due processes of the law, disappeared without trace etc, etc. Your arguments with regards to second round of voting was maybe copied from the constitution of God knows where. This is a mature discourse and we need informed, intelligent and true Gambians to participate not fools.
This man committed all kind of atrocities against the people of The Gambia for 22 years. He was voted out of office in a democratic election that was free, fair and transparent, result certify by all polling agents including those of Yahya’s party. He Yahya accepted the results and congratulated the winner Barrow on National Television, promising not to contest the results as they were the will of The Gambian people and will of God.He then changed his mind when he realised that his ill gotten gains at the expenses of The Gambian people will not be spend unhindered, his crimes unpunished. He frantically tried to bring in mercenary judges from Nigeria to hear his petition in the Supreme court,a court that haven’t been constituted for over a year. Its ironic that he is looking for redress from a court that he himself work hard to undermine, corrupted and unbalanced. We the Gambians will not go back to the polls as we have already spoken loud and clear that we do not want Yahya.
Yahya must go or his fate will be like those of Gaddafi or Saddam Hussain or worst.

          • First it’s look like , you are not a democratic, and not know how to put yor argument, if you belive that there is another or new gambia constitution please
Send me, but when your descossing a matter of democracy and yor are using sin words, that mean you are happy to be told contrary, take care I hope there are no means for war, long live gambia constitution and gambia people,

Please go and read a copy of gambia constitution 2016 from gambia independent electoral comisson so you can alight you self

        • Seek enlightenment or shut up. The constitution you based your argument on is not the constitution of The Gambia. This discourse should be on points of facts not tall tales or confused assertions.

    • LUIS

  8. Now its all down to hackers .bits evidente that its a case before the courts. how certain are you of not trying todo influence the outcome.why not shut your lobster mouth and present your evidences un court.

  9. Sam Sarr, you guys will do or say anything just for power. The arrogance of it all, closing the IEC, bringing judges from outside and doing whatever you want with no regards for us Gambians.
One law for you guys and another for the rest of us. Fear Allah

  10. If Jammeh does not step down Ecowas should remove him ,,, the sooner the better . For the good of The Gambia , it’s people and its sanity

  11. If Jammeh does not step down Ecowas should remove him ,,, the sooner the better . For the good of The Gambia , it’s people and its sanity

  12. If it were not so serious, it would be a black comedy. I’ll cut to the chase. 22 years in power which apparently isn’t enough. So one assumes there are not fit and proper persons to lead the country in a dignified way that holds dear the real value of democracy. We know the answer, Gambian’s voted and finally the country emerges and will finally prosper for the majority and not the minority.

  15. Sam Sarr really is odious. He needs to be treated with the contempt he deserves. His sycophancy towards Jammeh plumbs new depths.

  16. You must be hearing voices in your head Sam to come up with such infantile story. To answer your first paragraph, yes Yayha is the only one trying to cling onto power with idiots like you hanging onto his tail to anchor him to the ground. Perhaps it has escape your pea size brain, Yahya is the one in power so if anyone is clinging onto power it can only be him.
You must be mistaking the Gambia elections with the US elections where the intelligence services are alleging Russian sabotage. This is what happens when one tries to process too much information with a pea size brain. One tends to get easily muddle up. The Gambia’s electoral system is very basic. It does not rely on electronics at all, that’s why the very man you are cracking your pea size brain to defend said it “is rigged proof”. Unless you want to call him a lair, then it is really rig proof. Therefore coming up with a story that the IEC computers were hacked into is a very stupid thing to say. Even for a snake’s underbelly like you. Did you forget that the ballots were counted at each pooling station immediately by IEC staff with all the Partys’ representatives, each of whom signed the tally sheet and also communicated that result to their various party HQ? Jammeh conceded defeat on the bases of the tallied results that he received from APRC election representatives. A political Party like the APRC should have mechanisms in place to have detected any anomaly before the party leader makes a concession speech. If not then Jammeh has only himself and the idiots that ran his election to blame.
You have waffled on about some evidence. May I ask how you come to have access to such evidence? By the way this is a rhetorical question. I don’t want to task your brain with any extra load. As far as, we, the Gambian public were aware, the IEC was taken over by military personnel because of a threat of arson attack. So anyone who accessed anything there during that period has committed a crime because it would have been done illegally. It is idiots like you who put Jammeh in this predicament. For someone who is purported to be security conscious, you have just made a stupid school boy error by publicly claiming knowledge of evidence which may have been illegally obtained. I advise that you give your pea size brain a rest, because you are now sounding like a mumbling buffoon.

  17. Hi Sam to program or hack computers You have to be very very good at maths. Algebra and algorithms are not for idiots as you try to point by this stupid puerile explanation .
Man the safara must have been administered to you in the form of an Anema that’s why you keep churning out garbage out of your rear passage or will you tell us later you were being blackmailed.

  18. Woeful Mr Sarr. You conveniently left out why Jammeh sent military men to seize the offices of the IEC. Who knows what’s happening there to date? Must Jammeh rule forever? 22yrs is enough. Come again,Sarr.

  19. Mr Sarr,on 22 July,1994,your boss siezed power unconstitutionally, lead the country unconstitutionally and made it a source of income for him and his cronies through “rampant” corruption a slogan forming part of his justification for acting unconstitutionally in 1994.
On December 1st,2016 Gambians went to the polls to restore the constitution, democracy and the rule of law.
On the 2nd December,2016 Gambians got what they have been looking for in vain for 22 years, your boss conceded defeat, but when he knew that he will no longer be hiring and firing at will, nor insult and threaten the populace and will not be addressed with such long names and titles, he consulted sycophants like you and you told him annul the elections when he did that nursery school boys and girls had to tell him that he has no power or right to annul a ward councillor elections not to talk of a presidential one, that’s why he rushed to the courts in a scenario of putting the cart before the horse, look to crown it all Sam Sarr, your boss is done and done period, better start looking for a security job and stop wasting time defending the in defendible?Let him pack before before we pack for him

  20. Sarrr or whatever your name is, your sycophancy stinks to the high heavens.pride yourself in truth and let your family look onto you with admiration.
