Health authorities in the Gambia have diagnosed a fourth patient with coronavirus.
The unnamed 50-year-old male is said to have travelled to the country from France via Morocco on 15th March. He is said to have been on the same Royal Air Maroc Flight Number 8579 with the country’s first COVID-19 patient.
Results of a samples collected from another patient are inconclusive and health officials are trying to establish whether he is free of disease.
Dr Amadou Samateh, Gambia’s Health minister told journalists that out of 23 samples tested on 28 March 2020, 21 were negative, one came out as positive, another came out as inconclusive.
“It is important to note that all four confirmed cases are imported into the country and there is yet any evidence of the existence of local transmission.
“We appealed to all contacts to call the toll free number for advice, so as to take care their families and the general public. The Ministry of Health appeal to the general public to remain calm and vigilant and follow the preventive measures at all time.”
“We appeal to the general public to follow the executive directive of the President Adama Barrow to stay at home and have social distancing and close none essential businesses. The virus does not move by itself, it is move by people and it move from one person to the other. Therefore it make sense that when people stay away from each other, at least at recommended distances, the virus is not likely not to spread.”
