A female Gambian traffic officer who was pictured directing traffic during a heavy downpour of rain was today promoted to the rank of Sergeant by the country’s Inspector General of Police.
Corporal Kaddy Jarju who is described as a dedicated officer, was directing heavy traffic when the heavens opened.
Instead of abandoning her post and seeking shelter, the female officer who was not wearing a raincoat took off her shoes, pulled up her trousers to knee level and got into the flowing water and continued to direct traffic with unwavering passion, diligence and dedication.
The image of the selfless officer sparked admiration and requests by many Gambians of diverse backgrounds for the head of the police force, Alhaji Mamour Jobe, to consider motivating the officer.
The request was granted on Monday morning when the female officer was decorated at the police headquarters in Banjul.
While congratulating her for the hardwork and selfless service, the police boss used the opportunity to call on other officers to emulate such diligence and dedication to serving the public.
