The Gambia has today registered 77 new cases of coronavirus bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 403.
At least eight people have died from the disease in the small West African nation.
The latest figures were released a few hours after the country’s vice president Dr Isatou Touray tested positive for the disease and will be in self-isolation for two weeks.
President Adama Barrow who came into contact with his deputy will also be self-isolation for two weeks.
Despite the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the country, many Gambians are yet to take the disease seriously and are continuing to ignore health guidelines.
