Heads of State and Government of the West African regional bloc Ecowas have announced sanctions on the junta in post-coup Guinea which includes travel bans on its leaders, APA can report from Accra on Friday.

A communique issued after an extraordinary Summit in the Ghanaian capital on Thursday evening by the Ecowas Commission said the sanctions are in accordance with the bloc’s extant protocols and covers travel bans on all members of the National Committee for Reconciliation and Development (CNRD) and their family members and of freezing of their financial assets.

West African leaders upheld Guinea’s suspension from all ECOWAS governing bodies until the restoration of constitutional order and ensure the conduct of presidential and legislative elections within six months in order to restore constitutional rule in the country.

They called on the African Union, the European Union, the United Nations, and other multilateral and bilateral partners to support the implementation of these sanctions.
