A Gambian man, Bakary Fatty, has been remanded in custody in Malta on charges revolving around allegations of violently resisting arrest, JollofNews can report.
Fatty was reportedly tasered in his cell after he allegedly attacked police officers at the Floriana lock-up.
The 28-year-old Gambian was earlier this month moved to the lock-up following the discovery of his illegal immigration status in Malta.
Meanwhile according to sources, Fatty aggressively attacked the officers in the early hours of November 5th whilst they were conducting routine checks.
“Officers noticed that the man appeared to be unconscious. However the moment the officers entered the cell, Fatty aggressively leapt to his feet and attacked them,” this medium gathered.
He was reportedly restrained after a taser gun was employed and subsequently taken to Mount Carmel Hospital for mind-reading.
After the observation at Mount Carmel, Fatty was discharged from the hospital on Monday but got re-arrested and arraigned before a magistrates’ court where he was charged with refusing to comply with legitimate orders, insulting and threatening the officers, violently resisting and inflicting slight injuries on them.
Additionally, Fatty has been slapped with the charge of damaging the officers’ uniform and taser.
He denied all the charges but his lawyer’s request for bail has been rejected due to the circumstances of the case, nature of the charges and Fatty’s lack of ties to Malta.
