Police in Senegal have rearrested Y’En A Marre movement Coordinator Alioune Sané after Supreme Court overturned a judgement to release him from jail.
“State prosecutors filed an appeal, challenging the court decision to release,” Y’ En A Marre’s Malal Talla aka Fou Malade told JollofNews in response to a request for comment.
Over these past years, Y’En A Marre has been on the frontlines to defend democracy and rule of law. In 2012, they were instrumental in securing Macky Sall’s win in the Presidential elections. They subsequently turned down Cabinet posts offered by President Sall as they vowed to stick to their sacro-saint role of raising awareness and opening the conscience of the masses to the sense of duty and responsibility.
Setting the record straight, Malal Talla clearly stated that Alioune Sané doubles as the Vice-Chair of the opposition platform F24 – a conglomerate comprised of political parties, civil society groups, youth groups and women’s rights organizations.
“Everything culminated from his arrest on May 29, 2023 when he was leading a F24 delegation mandated by its members to pay a visit to opposition leader Ousmane Sonko.
He then added that Sané was a leading target for State prosecutors as they came up with bogus charges levelled against him.
