Angola is set to present its human rights reports at the 81st Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, taking place in Banjul, The Gambia, from October 17 to November 6.
These reports will focus on the country’s implementation of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and the Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa (the Maputo Protocol).
Angola’s Secretary of State for Human Rights, Ana Celeste Januário, announced that these submissions will be discussed in an interactive dialogue with the Commission.
Angola previously engaged in such a dialogue in 2018, receiving 42 recommendations regarding the African Charter and 18 on the Maputo Protocol.
This year, the country also reports on its compliance with the Kampala Protocol on IDPs, making Angola the second African nation to submit such a report.
Januário further emphasised Angola’s progress with the UNDP’s new national program (2024-2028), which prioritises a human rights approach, gender equality, and inclusivity.
The UNDP aims to bolster partnerships to combat discrimination, improve public services, and reinforce the rule of law in Angola.
