United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainou Darboe has accepted the resignation of Talib Ahmed Bensouda from his party position, urging members to remain calm, respectful, and united.
Speaking on the development, Darboe said he accepted the resignation “in good faith” and reminded party supporters that Bensouda’s decision should not create division or animosity within the UDP.
“This resignation should not cause pain and anger,” Darboe said. “I urge militants to maintain the respect and harmony that existed between them and Talib Ahmed Bensouda.”
The UDP leader commended Bensouda for his contributions to the party, describing his service as diligent and effective. “He lobbied for it and got it, and Talib did a good job at that position,” Darboe noted.
Darboe also called for patience and understanding among party supporters, stressing the unpredictable nature of politics. “This is politics, and we don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Politics is dynamic. I urge everyone to shun anything that may ignite violence within the UDP and against Talib Ahmed Bensouda,” he said.
Clarifying the scope of the resignation, Darboe pointed out that Bensouda has only stepped down from his position and remains a member of the party. “He didn’t say he is no longer part of the UDP. He only relinquished his position in the party,” Darboe explained.

The statement comes amid ongoing debates about Bensouda’s political future, but Darboe’s remarks sought to assure members that unity and discipline within the UDP must remain a priority.
