Dependable sources have informed JollofNews that the Gambia Port Authority (GPA) has given marching orders to some of its former staff implicated in the multi-million dalasi financial scandal at the port’s rating department.
However, the same sources informed this medium that some of the implicated staff “are still working” with the Authority, raising questions about the fairness of the move to yank others out.
It would be recalled that the GPA in 2022 involved the police in the investigation over report that some staff at its rating department were undercutting fees and diverting the proceeds away from the port’s coffers.
A team from the National Audit Office(NAO), led by Bakary Mankajang, was subsequently mobilized and it has since completed its work.
The police have since sent the case file to the attorney-general’s chambers and ministry of justice, but it has been gathering dust from the shelves.
According to official sources, D20M was lost due to the actions of some rating department staff, but other sources put the amount stolen at D300M.

This medium has gathered from multiple sources that the GPA has started sending some people home after their periods of interdiction elapsed, but the sources said the administrative action was lopsided.
“Some well-connected incriminated staff are still being shielded,” one source said.
This medium could not establish how many staff were affected by the GPA’s reported move, but we’ll continue to make more effort to talk to the Authority’s authorities.
