The Gambia’s Food Safety and Quality Authority has successfully disposed off 640 boxes of rotten eggs that were confiscated from a local retailer.
The eggs were prevented from reaching local markets after authorities were given a tip-off by an anonymous source.
Following examination, the eggs were found to be unfit and unsafe for human consumption and were Thursday disposed an identified location by the National Environment Agency.
“The 640 boxes of eggs were offloaded from a truck and lodged into a pit in what was a well coordinated exercise with the National Environment Agency (NEA), who allocated the area; it was also witnessed by a representative of the Brikama Area Council (BAC), said Sylva Etheine of the Food Safety and Quality Authority.
“A Caterpillar was used to crush and bury the eggs before officials on site, would then lay the final touches, to ensure that; the area is rid off unwarranted human an animal activities; they also ensured that; the exercise does not have any impact on the environment.
Meanwhile, the Food Safety and Quality Authority is reassuring the Gambian public that it is keeping an eye on all incoming and already available foods in the country especially eggs; and that all eggs that are being sold in markets are wholesome.
“We shall remain vigilant over this any other food issue to ensure improved service deliveries in the country,” Sylva Etheine added.
What about chicken that were display in an open environments at the market place without proper handling process. As we knows chicken has fastest growing bacteria than any other meats if not handle properly.

No mention of who the retailer is, what punishment/ penalties to be levied and under what law is this action based on. What do you expect readers to gain from this blank and typical Gambian report? Lazy journalism.
