Authorities in the Gambia have put in place measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the West African country.
The Gambia is yet to register any case of the disease, which is now described by the World Health Organisation as a pandemic that has reached the shores of some of Gambia’s neighbours including Senegal.
have developed an interim measures for all hotels, restaurants and tour operators to implement as part of the country’s preparedness to prevent the coronavirus which has not yet affected The Gambia.
As part of efforts to contain the spread of the disease, the Gambia Tourism Board and the Ministry of Health have instructed hotel and other tourism sector operators in the country to provide hand sanitizers, tissue dispensers, cover dustbins in all entrances and ensure all persons accessing the hotel disinfect their hands before entering and leaving.
Hotels and restaurants are also asked to display posters on proper hand hygiene in all public space, provide staff with appropriate disinfectant (disposable alcohol swabs) to enable them regularly disinfect tables, keyboards, chairs etc..
Authorities have advised any staff and guests with flu-like symptoms to go into self-isolation and to contact the Ministry of Health for advice and guidance on 1025.
