The NPP has finally settled down to Sheriffo Sonko as its torchbearer for the impending battle for the control of Brikama Area Council (BAC), sources hinted JollofNews.
Sources also informed this medium that the planned Sunday NPP conclave in the regional capital of West Coast Region for the selection of an NPP candidate for BAC will not take place after all.
JollofNews was informed by dependable sources that the decision for the selection of Sonko was rooted in the need to ensure party unity as fissures emerged on the ruling party in the weeks and days to tomorrow’s selection of council chairmen or chairwomen.
A meeting was reportedly held at the Presidency shortly after the Gambia’s independence day parade today where it was “resolved” that Sheriffo Sonko be selected to “preserve” party unity.
However, these reports have been dismissed by an NPP top official, who spoke to JollofNews from State House, not long ago.
“As far as we are concerned, our selection will be tomorrow. We’re yet to choose our candidate for BAC,” the source stated.
