Gambia’s new ambassador to Cuba, Seyaka Sonko, expressed the mutual interest of both nations in exploring new opportunities for collaboration during his recent presentation of credentials to Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa.
Highlighting the importance of trust, mutual respect, and reciprocal benefits, Sonko reaffirmed Gambia’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with Cuba.
He noted that his mission, and that of the Gambian Embassy in Havana, is to deepen these relations through productive engagements.
Sonko emphasised the importance of international cooperation to address global challenges, stressing the need for nations to work together for lasting solutions.
He also condemned the imposition of sanctions and blockades that cause suffering, advocating for fairness and justice in global interactions.
He concluded by noting that Gambia and Cuba have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1979, with their cooperation growing significantly since the opening of the Gambian embassy in Havana in 2000.
