K/South Coastal Villages Assoc. PRO Debunks GEA’s Claims VDC Chairmen Are On GACH Payroll

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Kombo South Coastal Villages Association has strenuously denied claims by the Gambia Environmental Alliance (GEA) that VDC chairpersons in the Kombo South coastal communities were on GACH’s payroll.

The GEA made this claim on QTV Thursday morning.

The Kombo South coastal communities association PRO Abdoulie Boto Gaye, on behalf of the association, condemned GEA’s claim that VDC chairpersons in Kombo South are salaried by GACH, describing it as a figment of the alliance’s imagination.

“Those statements are false, immature and baseless,” PRO Gaye said in a statement shared with JollofNews.

He explained that VDC’s are the entry point for development, information and partnership-building as per the Local Government Act (2002).

“GACH is not offering salary to any VDC chairperson, employment or bonuses. Our role is to monitor GACH in order to operate in a professional and responsible manner, failure of which, we would hold them accountable,” Gaye stated. “We also hold GACH accountable on their corporate, social responsibility to various communities, individuals etc. On record, GACH is performing their duty to the communities from Batokunku, Tujereng and Sanyang, respectively.”

PRO Gaye called on individuals, journalists and organizations to cooperate with VDCs for any “meaningful information” at the community level.

“The association also condemned, with serious warning that such allegations against us will lead to legal action,” he concluded.
