Sabally Challenges Aji Yam Secka Over Silence On UDP 2026 Candidacy

Erstwhile United Democratic Party (UDP) campaign manager and current National People’s Party (NPP) deputy campaign manager Momodou Sabally, has publicly questioned the silence of Aji Yam Secka on the 2026 presidential candidacy of UDP leader, Ousainou Darboe.

In a pointed social media post circulating widely among UDP supporters, Sabally referred to Secka as the “Trojan horse of the #yellow house,” accusing her of playing a key role in the political rift that once emerged between Lawyer Darboe and President Adama Barrow following the birth of the so-called “New Gambia.”

According to Sabally, despite Secka’s lengthy public remarks, she failed to clearly state her stance on the UDP’s presidential candidate particularly in light of past declarations he claims she made in support of Darboe. “In her statement, she has spoken about everything and yet she told us nothing!” Sabally wrote.

“What prevents her from saying the very same thing that Chairman Yanks Darboe said?” he asked. “This is the million dollar question that all supporters and sympathizers of the UDP must answer.”

He questioned why Secka, a long-time senior figure within the UDP, has chosen to remain vague at what he described as a critical juncture in the party’s history. “Before I left the party, she made declarations on a few occasions that Lawyer Darboe was her candidate for 2026,” Sabally added. “What makes her refrain from making the same statement now?”

Calling her past role controversial, Sabally claimed that Secka was “at the very centre of the schemes of the teddybear,” a veiled reference many believe points to Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda. The former Presidential Affairs Minister further urged Secka to issue a clear audio statement to reaffirm her stance to party members and supporters.

“It’s too little too late. Let the old woman make an audio statement and let her party members hear from her,” Sabally said in his concluding remarks.

The UDP leadership has not yet responded to the latest criticism, and Secka herself has not made any public comment regarding Sabally’s challenge.
