Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay never unilaterally decided to visit former President Yahya Jammeh at his base in Equatorial Guinea, a rebuttal from an individual just signing up as Micky read.
Former President Yahya Jammeh claimed in a viral audio that he closed his doors to The Gambia’s ambassador to Mozambique Madam Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay when “she decided to visit” him in central Africa.
“The decision to visit Jammeh at Guinea was entirely discussed and endorsed at executive level, it was never a unilateral decision of FJC to individually visit Jammeh,” the rebuttal further read.
It explained that Ousman Rambo Jatta, Dodou Jah, Borry Colley, FJC, late Yankuba Colley and late Solo Marr were selected for the planned visit to Equatorial Guinea, but the trip was thwarted by the COVID-19 travel restrictions.
“In previous interviews, Rambo Jatta confirmed this journey as efforts to help the party [APRC],” it added.
According to the missive, no proposal for such a visit was ever proposed to Jammeh after the cancellation of the initial travel plan.
The missive concluded with an appeal to former President Jammeh “to change the mirror of his political approach and use leadership qualities to address issues he is concerned with”, stating that Jammeh’s audio contained disparaging remarks and “personal attacks”.
