Sanyang is the second largest settlement in Kombo South, but the village could not still produce a lawyer since Western education came to The Gambia nearly a century ago.
The community suffered immensely in 2021 when several of its youths were arrested following a violent demonstration over the killing of their compatriot by a Senegal national.
Not long ago, the community had to rely on its neighbour Gunjur for the services of a lawyer, regarding the proposed deepsea Port in the village.
The community said it’s playing a catch-up as it plans to train high school graduates as lawyers through an initiative to be bankrolled by GACH Mining.
