The APRC No To Alliance faction, loyal to Gambia’s Ex-President Yahya Jammeh, has expelled four senior members from the party, citing directives from Jammeh himself and accusing them of acting against the party’s core leadership.
In a press release signed by First Deputy Party Leader Momodou Yafaye Tamba, the faction announced the immediate expulsion of Mr. Foday Chorr, Mr. Lamin Tamba, Mrs. Aisha Cole, and Mr. Pa Modou Mbowe.
The statement, dated 18 July 2025, said the decision was taken under the authority of party leader Jammeh, who continues to direct the group from exile in Equatorial Guinea. “The following members are hereby expelled from the party with immediate effect,” the release stated.
The expulsion notice also addressed ongoing confusion surrounding Mr. Habib Secka, who previously claimed he had been removed by the party’s executive and not by the leader. The statement dismissed Secka’s version as “completely bogus and lies,” insisting that only Yahya Jammeh, as party leader, holds the authority to dismiss members.
“To reiterate, whoever is fired from his/her position or otherwise from the party, must have been fired by the party leader,” it said.
The APRC No To Alliance faction has consistently rejected the 2021 alliance between the main APRC executive and President Adama Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP), insisting that the move was never sanctioned by Jammeh. Friday’s expulsion reinforces the faction’s hardline stance and its claim to be the legitimate voice of the APRC under Jammeh’s leadership.
The expelled members have been warned not to speak or act on behalf of the party going forward.
This development is the latest in a long-running internal feud between the No To Alliance camp and the pro-alliance faction, further deepening the split within the once-dominant political party. With national elections approaching, the divisions threaten to weaken the APRC’s broader influence and cast more uncertainty over its political future.
