The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SICPA, a global provider of security solutions, and Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) to introduce new measures aimed at transforming the collection of fuel marketing revenue.
The partnership is designed to curb illicit activities and reduce revenue leakages in the sector by applying advanced technology and secure financial processes.
Under the agreement, SICPA will deploy its track-and-trace system to monitor fuel products from importation through to final distribution. The system will provide the GRA with a comprehensive view of the supply chain, making it harder for fraudulent practices to go undetected.
GT Bank will complement the initiative by offering a secure and efficient platform for all financial transactions linked to revenue collection. Officials say this integration of technology and financial oversight will strengthen the GRA’s ability to monitor and collect taxes from the fuel sector, which is one of the country’s most important revenue streams.
At the signing ceremony, GRA Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe described the agreement as a significant step forward in the modernisation of revenue collection.
“This collaboration will enhance efficiency and transparency in our revenue mobilisation efforts,” he said.
Representatives from both SICPA and GT Bank also expressed their commitment to supporting the GRA in strengthening revenue systems and ensuring fair competition in the market.
The new system is expected to reduce fraud, create a fairer environment for businesses, and ensure that all parties contribute their share to the national economy. Officials believe it will also boost revenue collection and provide the state with a more secure and predictable source of income.
The initiative reflects the GRA’s wider push to modernise tax administration and build a fair and efficient system for citizens and businesses. Authorities say the ultimate beneficiary will be the Gambian economy, which stands to gain from improved transparency and stronger revenue performance.
