Commuting along the Sukuta highway has always been nightmarish but commuters have started feeling some reprieve following the deployment of heavy machinery on the highway to level parts of it in anticipation of President Adama Barrow’s planned weekend rally.
The Gambian leader is expected to travel to Sukuta this Saturday for a political rally organised by his party’s supporters.
Sukuta highway is one of the busiest routes in the Greater Banjul Area, serving as a connecting tissue between several urban and peri-urban communities.
However, the highway is currently in a deplorable state due to seasonal rains.
Despite many deafening appeals to the central government to prioritise the construction of Sukuta highway, there is so far no indication that the road is currently a priority for it.
In the meantime, many commuters along the Sukuta highway would wish for more presidential visits to Sukuta so that more kilometers of the road would be levelled as indicated on Thursday, when heavy equipment were moving along the road well into the evening to straighten its surface.
