The United Democratic Party’s regional spokesperson for the North Bank Region (NBR) Karamo Njie has concurred that President Adama Barrow never hatched any plot against the UDP leader or maneuvered for a position in one of the country’s largest political parties.
It would be recalled that President Adama in a recent interview with GRTS asserted that never at any time in his long membership in the UDP had he rebelled against the party’s leader or sought any position in the party.
Also speaking recently in his home village of Mankamang Kunda, where he is currently holidaying, President Barrow stressed that political parties should be cautious of those he described as “politicians-of-fortune”. The President said when the going was tough, none of those now calling on those who did the “heavy-lifting” against the dictatorship to leave the stage, were nowhere to be seen.
In an interview with JollofNews over the weekend, the UDP’s PRO for NBR, Karamo Njie, agreed that President Barrow was never a divisive figure in the UDP.
“Barrow never made any attempt to undermine Ousainou or create camps in the UDP before gaining power. Before becoming President, Barrow stayed true to the values of the UDP and was never involved in any rat race in the party,” Njie acknowledged.
According to the UDP NBR mouth-piece, there is no denying that all that Mr. Barrow was interested in was the advancement and the attainment of the party’s “noble objectives”.
“There is no gainsaying that all the positions that Barrow held in the UDP were thrust on him. And, he indeed invested himself in the party. He contested for the UDP in the Jimara constituency at a time when the going was very tough. So, the President is right when he said that we should be cautious of the new crop of politicians who want everything on a silver platter,” Njie added.
When asked whether he was surprised that the young mayor of the Kanifing Municipality Talib Ahmed Bensouda, who was also the UDP’s organising secretary, left the party to form his own political movement, Njie replied: “I am indeed surprised and even shocked, but I derive strength from the fact that the root and the branches of the UDP are still solidly intact.”
