KAC To Unveil Waste Disposal Trucks Sunday

The Kerewan Area Council (KAC) is expected to launch two new waste disposal trucks this Sunday.

The trucks will be deployed in Barra and Farafenni with the objective of improving waste management in the two commercial hubs of the North Bank Region (NBR).

The Chairman of KAC, Papa Tunkara, urges residents to use designated waste disposal sites and cooperate with waste collectors.

This initiative aims to promote public health and economic growth in the area.

It could be recalled that in July 2025, Chairman Tunkara launched a major clean-up campaign in Barra called “Waste No More” aimed at tackling longstanding waste management problems and improving environmental and public health conditions in the town.

“I thank my councillor who is no other person than Michelle Mendy; my workaholic whose ward is worth everything to her with endless sleepless nights. Michelle has been talking to me about how we should support the people of Barra who have been long battling with waste management issues,” he acknowledged, adding: “I won’t do justice without thanking my CEO, Sainabou Martin Sonko, who has been working day and night, to ensure that the council does what they are supposed to do. One thing I want you [the people of NBR], to understand is that Papa Tunkara, cannot do it alone.

Under my leadership as Chairman of Kerewan Area Council, I do not believe in political affiliation or division that says or believes Mr X or Y belongs to party A or B and therefore I have nothing to do with him/her. That’s not who Papa Tunkara is. I am calling on you all to converge in Barra on the 26th for the grand launch.”
