The leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) Mai Ahmad Fatty has dismissed, as unfair, Sidia Jatta’s claim that the Barrow administration’s infrastructure development in the Upper River Region (URR) was politically-motivated.
Speaking on Sunday at a joint meeting for Baja Kunda and Wuli East in the URR as President Barrow continued his annual Meet The People tour, Fatty refuted this claim, emphasising that the projects have greatly improved locals’ livelihoods. He pointed out that access to electricity has fostered self-employment, offered income-generating opportunities, and enhanced road connectivity, among other positive impacts.
“The skills we used to hire from the urban areas are also available in Wuli, this is as a result of the electricity the Barrow government is brought to Wuli and surrounding communities.”
The GMC leader went on to add that “many people are making ends meet while staying here in Wuli due to the diverse development outcomes they are enjoying under Barrow’s administration. “And, as a result, even those in the diaspora have businesses here in Wuli, some own taxis that are generating money for them here in Wuli. With all these development accomplishments, how can someone say that infrastructural developments in Wuli and across the Upper River Region are driven by political motives?

Mai Fatty further commended President Barrow’s developmental progress, describing him as the foundation of The Gambia’s ongoing development path.
