Agriculture Minister Demba Sabally has dismissed talk of former President Yahya Jammeh returning to The Gambia, telling residents of Foni Bondali that such a scenario is far from reality.
The minister made the remarks during the President’s ongoing Meet the People Tour, where turnout at the Bondali stop was noticeably low. Addressing the crowd, Sabally said Jammeh would not be coming back to the country any time soon, adding that it would not happen this November or the next.
He stressed that the former leader cannot re-enter The Gambia without the approval of President Adama Barrow. According to Sabally, that authority rests solely with the current head of state, and the administration has no plans to grant such clearance.
Sabally also criticised individuals he described as “Ashobee sellers,” accusing them of taking advantage of vulnerable supporters by circulating false claims about Jammeh’s imminent return. He said the stories being shared are baseless and are giving people hope that has no footing.
In an effort to rally local support behind President Barrow, the minister reminded residents of Bondali of the difficult years they endured during Jammeh’s rule. He pointed to the killing of Dawda Nyassi as a painful chapter the community still remembers, calling it a dark mark that should not be forgotten.

Sabally closed his remarks by urging the people of Bondali to continue standing with the Barrow administration, saying the current government represents a clearer break from the abuses of the past.
