Sillah Blasts UDP & Brikama Area Council Over Stalled Market Projects

Transport, Works and Infrastructure Minister Ebrima Sillah used the government’s “Meet the People” tour stop in Busumbala to deliver one of the most forceful speeches of the tour so far, taking direct shots at the United Democratic Party and the Brikama Area Council. He accused both of standing in the way of ordinary citizens and slowing down major development plans for the West Coast Region.

Sillah began by alleging that UDP supporters had been obstructing eligible Gambians at voter registration centers. He also claimed that some Alkalos were withholding attestations needed for voter cards.

He warned that anyone involved in such interference would face legal consequences. According to the minister, political grievances should be taken to the revising courts rather than played out at registration centers.

He then shifted to voters in parts of Kombo, noting that these communities have not backed ruling-party candidates in past elections. Sillah argued that development and political responsibility go hand in hand, saying that progress comes faster when communities support leaders who can push projects through government channels. His message was clear: electoral decisions have practical consequences.

The sharpest part of his speech, however, was aimed at Brikama Area Council Chairman Yankuba Darboe. Sillah said the council’s decision to take the issue of market management to a tribunal has stalled several major infrastructure projects that were expected to transform commercial life across the West Coast Region.

He displayed architectural designs for new markets planned for Brikama, Tanji, Brufut and Salagi. Sillah said construction would already be underway if the council had not, in his words, stood in the way.

He described the tribunal dispute as more than an administrative hurdle, arguing that it is costing local residents badly needed improvements and economic opportunities.

Minister Ebrima Sillah should stop hypocrisy and misleading statements to people he is serving. Minister always chooses to lie instead of telling the truth. Let it be clear to him that we the people of The Gambia are aware of their lies and incompetency to lead The Gambia to safe heaven. Come 2026, Insha’Allahu Rabb they will be kicked out of our public service for good.
