One of the most respected voices in the UDP Aji Yam Secka has warned President Adama Barrow to desist from making death and malady-related utterances against Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, expressing the resolve that she will henceforth respond adequately to Mr. Barrow whenever he utters “unguarded” stuff about Darboe.
It was not ages ago when President Barrow precipitated a barrage of criticism against himself when he fumed during the inaugural ceremony of the NPP regional bureau in Brikama that he would relinquish power if he receives credible news of Darboe’s demise and only after accompanying his corpse to the graveyard.
Mr. Barrow recently triggered yet another deluge of criticism towards himself when he predicted that Darboe will find himself on a hospital bed at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul or in UK if he dares to follow suit the five tours that he [Barrow] plans to embark upon before next December’s presidential election.
During a recent political meeting in Kassa Kunda after he laid the foundation stones for roads in western region, Mr. Barrow announced that he will in due course embark on tours to inaugurate the roads bankrolled by the World Bank and those funded by taxpayer money, meet the people, inaugurate the executed electricity projects, which will be capped by the 2026 presidential campaign tour.
“If he follows suit, I don’t think even the EFSTH can resuscitate him, he must go to the UK for treatment,” Barrow asserted.
But these sick and ailment-related remarks as well as the macabre utterances that Barrow made against Darboe in Brikama earlier this year have galvanized the UDP deputy leader Aji Yam Secka into making the resolve that Mr. Barrow’s “ill-intentioned” utterances against Darboe will no longer go unchallenged.
“I’m the one to respond to what Adama Barrow said about H. E Darboe on the day he was laying the foundation stones for his roads in the West Coast Region,” said the UDP’s No.2.
“I would like to tell President Barrow to leave H. E Darboe alone, he has made life difficult for him. Anytime he opens his mouth, he will only make ill-intentioned remarks about Darboe and would not say anything good about him. Let him leave him alone, he’s not his mate,” Madam Secka pointed out.
The UDP deputy leader indicated that President Barrow should be grateful to Hon. Darboe.
“Adama Barrow, the position you are occupying today is thanks to H. E Darboe after God and the Messenger [Prophet Muhammed]. But anytime you’re set, you’ll launch macabre utterances against him, telling him about death and malady,” she stated.
She added: “Adama Barrow, don’t you know that an intention is a house and it’s the one intending that resides there? May what you intend for him[Darboe] boomerang on you. May what you intend for H. E Darboe from your heart and uttered with joy befall you. Adama Barrow, leave the man alone. He did not do anything bad to you. Haven’t you observed that anytime you utter disdainful remarks about Darboe, something always befalls you? You have not just observed it. Leave the man, leave him. You made death remarks against him and now, you are talking about illness and ailment. May what you intend for him befall you.”
Madam Secka asserted that Mr. Barrow was angry and the source of his anger is that “he wasn’t able to pull the crowds” during his recent Meet The People Tour as Darboe did during his recent nationwide tour.
“You know that you did not have the crowds that he pulled during his recent tour. That is what is irritating you. He pulled crowds in all the constituencies and regions that we went to. That is what has stunned and is still rankling you,” the deputy UDP leader said.
She claimed that Mr. Barrow is always jealous and envious of Hon. Darboe’s political inroads.
“Whenever H. E Darboe achieved something remarkable for his party, you[Barrow] become bitter,” she said, adding: “You went on a tour[nationwide tour], but nobody paid heed to you, nobody came out. And you said you will embark upon five tours, let’s wait and see which money you’ll use. The Constitution mandates you to embark on tour twice but if you’ll be going for five times, let’s see which money you’ll utilize. Maybe not taxpayer money, you can’t have that audacity.”
She reiterated her call on President Barrow to stop wishing Darboe the grave or hospital bed.
“Stop having ill-will towards H.E Darboe, he has surpassed you,” she posited. She continued: “You did not do what he did for this country. You did not go through the hardship that he endured for this country. You are just fortunate to become President. You know that position belongs to H.E Darboe. It’s crystal clear to you that in 2026, you will vacate the seat for him to occupy it. That is what is exasperating you, that is what’s burning you inside. We are not using tours to compete. What we are competing for is to win this election.”
Madam Secka hinted that Hon. Darboe will not stoop so low to dignify Barrow’s uncouth remarks with a response.

“He [Darboe] will not respond to you but the masses will,” she stressed, adding: “But as for me, I will respond to you whenever you say bad things about H. E Darboe. Leave him, leave and leave him alone. Your administration is topsy-turvy. People are being murdered in this country. It was just recently that a young girl was killed here; a very young girl and you did not say anything about it.
Deliberate killings are rampant, there is an upsurge in cases of property theft, all things bad are on the rise. Since you assumed office, there continues to be a lot of dust and all this dust is Satan’s dust. Stop taunting, taunting is not good. Leave the man, leave H. E Darboe. Anytime you say stuff about him now, I will come out to respond.”
