Major Diplomatic & Public Service Reshuffle Announced

The government of the Gambia has announced a wide-ranging reshuffle affecting senior diplomats and top public service officials, with several promotions, redeployments, recalls and new appointments across key institutions.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Omar Baldeh, formerly a Director at the ministry, has been redeployed and promoted as Deputy Head of Mission in Jeddah. Habib Jarra has been recalled from his role as Deputy Head of Mission in Saudi Arabia and appointed Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Vice President.

In another diplomatic move, Ebrima Barry, Deputy Head of Mission to Qatar, has been redeployed to Paris in the same capacity. His Paris counterpart, Mrs Fatim Njie, has been recalled and appointed Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the Qatar Embassy, Musa Bah has been promoted to the rank of Counsellor, while Abubacarr Camara, Director General of GTB, has been redeployed as Deputy Head of Mission to Qatar. Karamo Janneh, former Director General of GMA, has been appointed Deputy Head of Mission in Sierra Leone.

Several senior changes have also been made at the Office of the President. Kajali Sonko, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Office of the President, has been promoted to Permanent Secretary. Amadou Nyang, also a Deputy Permanent Secretary at the same office, has similarly been promoted to Permanent Secretary. Mrs Kumba Mbaye, a Principal Analyst, has been promoted to Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Office of the President.

In the social sector, Saikou Jeng has been appointed Executive Director of the National Social Protection Agency.

In the diplomatic corps, Noah Touray has been recalled from his position as Ambassador to Spain.

Further appointments include Abdoulie Jaffuneh, Secretary to the Public Service Commission, who has been promoted and appointed Deputy Secretary to Cabinet. Mustapha Nyabally, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the PMO, has been redeployed to the Public Service Commission. Lamin Saidy, Director at PMO, has been promoted and appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary at the same office.

Sulayman Sumareh has been confirmed as Managing Director of the NRA.

At the GPPC, Momodou Ceesay has been redeployed from his role as Head of Mission and dismissed, while Wura Bah has been appointed Acting Managing Director of GPPC.

The changes are part of an ongoing effort to reposition the public service and diplomatic missions, with officials expected to assume their new roles with immediate effect.
