(JollofNews) – The leader of the Gambia’s opposition has expressed strong optimism of defeating President Yahya Jammeh in next month’s presidential election.

Adama Barrow, 51, who is heading a coalition of opposition parties including the Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS), the National Reconciliation Party (NRP), the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), the National Convention Party (NCP), the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) the Gambia Party for Democracy and Progress (GPDP) said change is inevitable and with the support of Gambians he will salvage the country from its present state to a more prosperous future.

Addressing meetings in Kaur and Niamina in the Central River Region, Mr Barrow said Gambians have realised that President Jammeh has failed them and the country and they are ready to vote him out in December.

He added that Gambians have endured a lot of sufferings for over two decades and  his administration would restore Gambia’s fledgling democracy and good governance.

“We are going to be your servants and will respect your rights and freedoms,” Mr Barrow said.

“The frequent unlawful arrest and detentions of the citizens would be halted immediately and all those illegally detained by the Jammeh regime would be released.”

Mr Barrow paid tribute to the many Gambians especially Lawyer Ousainou Darboe and the leaders of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) for the sacrifices they have made to ensure that Gambians have a dignified and free life.

He said his administration would not politicise development and  would ensure that all the development projects in agriculture, health, and education, infrastructure electricity and roads  reflects the needs of the people.
