APRC Rank & File Concerned About Jammeh’s ‘Strange’ Silence

At a time when his sheer weight is required to roar his party into the December general election, former President Yahya Jammeh is sitting quietly in Equatorial Guinea, watching political developments from afar and, this posture of his has concerned the rank and file of his faction of the APRC.

The APRC Babili Mansa supporters said they need Jammeh more than ever before as battle-lines continue to be drawn ahead of December when Gambians will return to the polls to elect their president.

“Yahya Jammeh is our galvanizing factor and his strange silence on Gambian matters and those of the APRC in the past months is concerning,” Sunkaru Badjie, a resident of Faji Kunda, told JollofNews.

Another APRC grassroots supporter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said she was gradually losing confidence.

“This is alarming,” she said of Jammeh’s eerie reticence on Gambian and APRC issues.

“Though, we have been assured and reassured by the APRC executives about the party’s viability, we need more assurances and reassurances from the Supreme Leader himself because the election is just months away,” APRC supporter Karafa Badjie opined.

Similar sentiments were re-echoed by many APRC supporters that were approached for comments.

Meanwhile, JollofNews could not establish whether or not Jammeh’s continued silence on Gambian issues was imposed on him by the authorities of Equatorial Guinea.

The former dictator’s “meddling” in Gambian politics has concerned The Gambia government. There were reports that the government was making moves to lodge a report to Jammeh’s host Obiang Nguema that his utterances could jeopardize The Gambia’s peace and security.
