Gambia 2016: Defeated Jammeh To Address The Nation

(JollofNews) – President Yahya Jammeh of the Gambia is due to give a televise address to the nation few hours after he conceded defeat to president-elect Adama Barrow.

Mr. Jammeh, 51, has governed the Gambia since July 1994 and has won four previous elections.

But yesterday Gambians decided against giving him a fifth term and voted enthusiastically to Mr. Barrow also 51 who is heading a coalition of eight opposition parties.

According to the Gambia’s electoral commission (IEC), Mr. Jammeh secured 212099 of the general votes while Mr. Barrow captured 263515 votes.

Shortly after the final results were declared Mr. Jammeh is reported to have called Mr barrow and conceded defeat and has promised to respect the verdict of the Gambian people.

In tonight address to the nation, Mr Jammeh is expected to commend Gambians for the peaceful conduct of the election and to thank them for the loyalty and support they have shown to him and his government in the past 22 years.

Meanwhile, under the provision of the Gambian constitution Mr. Jammeh will see up the rest of his term until a new government is sworn in sixty days.

  1. Jammeh clearly lost the election so is no need to U turn and reject the losses, he need to know that his majority went to other party which is GDC and that gave coalition party a winning chance. This is a simple clarification, he is just wasting time to argued so thing that has manufested, wise man will just conceded and find ways to unify the divided nation and lean on good side of history.

    Babili Mansa is the choice of the people not the fat belly and ugly wheelbarrow. if the diaspora gambians think they can manipulate the results by bribing the IEC Chief Robber by fixing results they are fools. we the people in The Gambia cannot be fooled by you. We know who is giving us progress and development. We will stand our hero Yahya Jammeh till the end. His love for Gambia cannot march you the hypocrits Diasporan Gambians who looted our monies and fled and now you want to come back by bribing the electoral chief robber to fix figures. Jammeh is not a fool neither a coward.
