Scarcity Of New Banknotes Fuels Friction On Roads

Mutilated and hackneyed dalasi banknotes are a major source of friction between commuters and mates of drivers of commercial vehicles on The Gambia’s roads.

It would appear that gone are those days when new, crispy banknotes constantly replaced torn and worn-out currency notes.

The Central Bank of The Gambia is mandated to consistently rid the economy of mutilated or worn-out currency notes, but there were suspicions that the apex bank could be re-injecting them back into the economy.

New dalasi banknotes are rarely seen in circulation as mutilated and hackneyed dalasi notes continue to inundate the country’s economy.
